Fabulous Metallics

Let's look at Metallics which are always a welcome addition to any space, especially when used in accessories and smaller pieces like mirrors, small tables and now even metallic leather.  Another way to enjoy metallics is to mix the different metals.  We have moved beyond using all one type of metals in both our jewellery and our homes.  By mixing appropriately you add interest and can create a unique space.  Adding metallics to your home, you give it that touch of elegance which works in both contemporary and traditional spaces.  Just remember to keep it simple and try to stay with only 2 - 3 different metallic tones.

Corinne Campenio designs from France now at SOFA

I attended an event at SOFA this morning to introduce a new design source coming out of Paris, France with gorgeous products.  The line offers chairs, benches, headboards and toss cushions all designed by Corinne Campenio.  This talented designer travels to various cities around the world to find her inspiration which she photographs and then transforms into beautiful creations.  The frames for the furniture is made of Canadian kiln dried maple in Montreal and can be finished in whatever the client would like.  The options are plentiful and so unique.  One can combine any of her fabrics on any style of chair or bench for a completely one of a kind custom design.  The printing process is done with the sublimation process and the design goes deep into the fabric making it very durable and resistant to scratching, fading under normal conditions.  This fabric also meets fire resistant requirements and commercial standards.   Currently this line can only be sourced at SOFA within the GTA.

IDS 2014

I made it to IDS for Trade Day!!  Some of the many great displays caught my eye but a few really stood out.
One of the interesting displays was the Korhani exhibit which featured Talking mannequins guiding us through the space, having Alice in Wonderland at the entry.  The mannequins were all wearing Korhani rugs which shows how fashion and interior design really do overlap.  Such a unique installation.  Korhani has been around since 1902 and offer stylish and affordable product lines.

Happy second week of 2014....

Well I will not be posting about all the wonderful things going on this month that I am missing because I had a little confrontation with some ice and did a teeny bit of damage to my right leg.... yes the same leg I trashed a few years ago and of course it had to be the driving leg.  My fingers are crossed that it is not serious and that I can get physio and back on track soon.  January is historically a busy month with many events and trade shows.  I do hope to attend some of the IDS trade day next week (a colleague is driving me) so I can get a look at all that is new and fantastic and then I can inform readers all about it.

So everybody, be careful on that ice!!

Back in the fall after the highpoint market I listed the trends seen this year and have been selecting some to highlight.  Lacquered Furniture was very popular as well as bright colours.  This treatment on traditional pieces gives an entirely new and exciting look.
Adding a bright pop of colour to a traditional piece makes it unique and exciting!
Here are a few examples of some lacquered pieces, both contemporary and antique
